Veggie Patch!
When we bought our decrepit and needing lots of TLC house, the main selling points were the good location, and large block. The first thing I wanted was a veggie patch to grown some of our food, because I enjoy gardening and there is nothing like freshly picked salad vegetables.
But until now there was always something more important, or then I had the baby and there was never any time…
Today we finally finished it off and filled it with compost. I’ll give it a week to settle and then I can start planting. We are so close to picking and eating… Yum!
I am a fan of the square foot gardening, and the bed is 8′ x 4′ which makes two of the standard 4′ x 4′ beds. Better look up what I can plant now in the middle of summer and get cracking
I like this method because it can be done in containers as well. The last place we were living was a unit and I had a garden on the balcony in pots that provided salad and greens, enough to make most meals from.
There is a forum about square foot gardening here: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/sqfoot/
Mel Bartholomew who wrote the book about it can be found here: http://www.squarefootgardening.com/
